it's jambi

Jambi Tourism is increasing. The statement was made by The Governor of Jambi, Hasan Basri Agus. Jambi has 223 tourism objects, comprising of different kinds of tourisms, i.e. cultural, historical, natural and artificial (man-made) tourisms.
“The increase in tourism affects the economic growth. The tourism sector has become one of the contributors of the people economy and at present the growth has reached the rate of 9.1%, the highest in Sumatra Island,” explained Mr. Governor at the launching of The Week of Jambi Cultural Enchantment, at Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday (8/11/2011).

He further explained that for the cultural and historical tourism site, Jambi has Muaro Jambi Temple Compound Site. There are 86 temples in the location and it is in fact the largest temple compound site in Asia. Mr. Governor also added that Muaro Jambi Temple Compound Site is the only well-maintained temple compound site in Sumatra Island.
Next, he said, there are four national parks which function as conservation areas. Bukit Tiga Puluh National Park is the conservation area for orang utan, Sumatran tigers and elephants. There are also Kerinci National Park and Kerinci Mountain. The later is the highest active volcano in Indonesia. Two other parks are Seblat National Park and Bukit Dua Belas National Park.
“Jambi is also rich with cultural tourism,” Mr. Hasan Basri Agus continued. “There are plenty of traditional dances.” They are Lenggang Sri Tanjung Dance, Zara Zapin Dances and Naik Titi Mahligai Dance to mention some. Naik Titi Mahligai Dance is very unique in that it is danced by female dancers on splinters, swords and embers. This dance was performed in the launching ceremony and it made the audience amazed and feel eerie.
“The data from 2006 -2010 revealed that there was a rise in the number of tourists coming to Jambi, eventhough it was still under 10%. The number of  foreign visitors increased from 7,000 to 7,150 annually, while domestic visitors reached one million annually at present time, “ explained  Mr. Didi Wurjanto, the Head of Culture and Tourism Agency. Didi also said  that the visitors coming were visitors with money and they did not bother with the bad condition of the roads. They generally stayed to spend their time with the indigenous tribe (Suku Anak Dalam), hiked the mountain or explored the nature.
The infrastructure is the obstacle and therefore, the agency is thriving on improving the accessibility. He expects that Jambi can be one of tourism destinations in the national tourism map. Jambi Province consists of nine regencies and two cities, with the total population of about three million. The people are mixed in ethnicity and the blend is a good example of assimilation.
